Distributed Sun and Building Energy collaborated to install 6,778 solar PV panels on a 10-acre Cornell property site adjacent to the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport. This is Cornell’s first large-scale solar project, producing 2,388,357 kWh in year one to offset nearly 400 homes. The 2 MW project met NYSERDA’s incentive program requirements, and offers electricity to Cornell at a competitive price through a power purchasing agreement (PPA). A section of 10 solar panels was also constructed for Cornell’s academic use.
